ISHMPR Recognizes Patty Peterson with Individual Achievement Award

New Lenox, IL (Oct. 27, 2014)—The Illinois Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations (ISHMPR) honored marketing, public relations and communications professionals from across the state at its 2014 Annual Conference and Pinnacle Awards Presentation Oct. 23 and 24 at the DoubleTree in Oak Brook, IL. Patty Peterson was the 2014 recipient of the Society’s Individual Achievement Award, which recognizes an ISHMPR member for contribution to the healthcare marketing and public relations profession.

Patty Peterson is the Director of Public Relations at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System (SBL) in Mattoon, IL—a position she has held 14 of her 24 years of service to SBL. In this role, she has primary responsibility for the overall image of SBL and its extended campus locations in ten counties, with 119 employed medical staff members and 1,981 full-time employees. She has provided leadership for numerous marketing and public relations initiatives and oversaw such projects as development and launch of a new corporate logo and branding campaign, redesign of the organization’s website and incorporation of a patient portal and other tools critical to meaningful use of health information technology, and integration of a broad range of social media tools in SBL’s communication with employees, patients and family members and the community.

She has been instrumental in improving the culture of the Health Center, which resulted in Sarah Bush Lincoln achieving the 95th percentile in employee engagement and being a recipient of the Award of Excellence from HealthStream in 2012 and 2013. As a charter member of the Excellence Steering Team as Sarah Bush Lincoln, Peterson has helped to drive the organization’s patient satisfaction scores to the top decile in several patient care units. As a member of the management team, Peterson has played a key role in assisting the organization in receiving the Illinois Performance Excellence Gold Award, a measure of overall quality.

Peterson’s record of community service is equally distinguished. She has served as a Board Member and President of the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce.  She assisted with the recruitment efforts to attract a City Manager and provided support for the development of a communication plan for the Coles Together economic development organization in raising $3 million toward the FutureGen initiative.

In addition to a successful career in healthcare public relations and marketing, Peterson has been a member of the Illinois Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations since 2003.  She has served as ISHMPR President, Vice- President, and Chair of the Pinnacle Awards Committee and the Program Committee.
